Your First Dinner Party? A Few Tips

With the current economy it is not easy to be a socialite without incurring a lot of expenses. Hence the reason the at home dinner party is popular again.  Suddenly people are inviting their friends over to socialize at their home so that they can save on costs. However even though it may be a less expensive alternative, if you have never entertained before on a big scale it may be a bit scary.

Throwing a dinner party is not nearly as difficult as you may think. You don’t need to present something unprecedented. And you don’t need to have people eat from expensive dinner plates, you could use beautiful but not expensive Noritake china with the same effect.  Instead, remember the focus of your evening is the time that you are going to spend together to enjoy some great conversation.

If you have decided to go ahead and entertain at home. keep in mind that all this won’t be worthwhile if you don’t have fun doing it. Forget about trying to present yourself as a master chef.  You do not need to rival Jimmy Flay and Paula Dean to be able to really put together a lovely evening. Don’t worry about doing anything wrong - let go and go with the flow. Just concentrate on the food you’ll be serving, the ambiance that you are going to initiate, and the enjoyment you’ll be getting from your guests.

The first thing you must do for your event is plan in advance. Prepare a list of things to buy: food you will be serving, decorations, serveware that you’ll need.  Make sure also that you have an adequate quantity of dinner sets for all of the invited, dinnerware sets like a personal favorite for such events, Colorwave dinner plates. When choosing what food will be served, choose some dishes that you’ll be able to prepare beforehand. This should help you to do things at their proper time and not all together as you make the preparations for the event. Remember to choose ahead the music that will play in the background of your event. The ambiance of the event can be enhanced by the music selection.

Once the day of your dinner party arrives you have a lot to do, but keep yourself calm. You must find yourself some time prior to the event to take care of yourself and get dressed.  You may not want to stop, but it is important to take those few moments for yourself.  This will ensure that you are prepared and ready for when your guests arrive.  As you welcome your friends into your home be sure to greet them and introduce them to the other guests, and of course get everyone a drink.

After your friends arrive you can take off your thinking cap and relax.  As the host you are truly the one that sets the stage for the evening, so allow yourself to truly enjoy your time with your guests, and before you know it everyone will be having the time of their lives.
